Story
Thank you for visiting my charity page.
For those of you who arent aware my children and I suffer from a condition called Neurofibromotosis type 1 (NF1) .
I have a benign tumor in my brain (thankfully small at present) but causing some hydrocephalus (water on the brain).
Whilst 2 of my children have optic glimoas with my daughter having 8 hour surgery 3 years ago on her spinal cord to remove a tumour from neck which was causing early signs of paralysis.
We have also recently found out my son has further legions in his brain which are currently being watched.
Despite effecting around 25000 individuals it is still relatively unaware of despite being more common than conditions such as cystic fibrosis.
Neurofibromotosis is a genetic condition which can cause benign tumors to grow on the nerves and skin as well causing cafe au lait patches and problems with bones eyes and the nervous system with upto 50% of sufferers having learning difficulties.
CTT (Childhood Tumor Trust) is a fantastic charity that supports families and children with the challenges that NF1 brings. As well as helping raising awareness of the condition and holding events / camps for children with NF1.
In January I had the aim to virtually run from Lands end to John o Groats (874 miles ) with the aim of completing before the end of 2021.
Originally it was a personal goal but several people have said I should do this for charity. So I of course have chosen a charity close to our hearts.
