SDYFC run a wellbeing course within schools to educate, equip and empower young people to grow in their self-awareness of their wellbeing. We are passionate about not just see a generation survive in their wellbeing, but to ultimately thrive, supporting them with their identity and wellbeing. Did you know that 75% of young people diagnosed with a mental health illness aren’t receiving the help they need? (Children Society 2021) To put that in perspective, if our young people all had a mental health illness, then only 10 out of the 40 we work with would be getting the proper support. To put that in another perspective, if this were physical health, for example a broken leg, only 10 out of the 40 young people would be getting a cast, regular check-ups, and other necessary provision for their healing and recovery.
The team are regularly told that they are the only people who take the time to listen to them.
We will paddleboard 10km down the River Trent on 2nd April, any money raised will support SDYFC financially with the delivery of their wellbeing course in socondary schools across the Swadlincote area. This money will fund a well-being course that will undoubtedly provide needed, wanted, and necessary support and care for young people, continued training for the team, and covering the cost of resources. To deliver this course to one young person it costs £20 which covers materials and resources. Furthermore, it costs £42 per young person to run this course including the youth worker’s salary, preparation time, materials, and resources. So join with us as we reach out to young people in need of hope.
Each attendee is given a scrapbook where they can journal their journey, and we look at topics such as; how to cope, what is mental health, self harm, emotions and many more. The scrapbooks also allow the group to track their mood, and to write down how they are feeling without being judged.
Currently SDYFC are meeting and supporting 40 young people each week with their mental health. Your gift would enable the team to meet many more.
