Story
Hi everyone
I am joining seven other Irish volunteers in early August 2017 in Uganda in order to volunteer a week of our time with Soft Power Education.
The Kyomya Special Needs Residential Unit, home to 24 children with special needs in rural Uganda need £3,000 to contruct a new kitchen and fuel efficient stove. The current facility is no more than a brick wall housing a couple of pots on some makeshift fuel burners.
During the week we will not only be facilitating with the construction of the facilities but also taking part in pre-school primary education classes, assisting in the Special Education Needs (SEN) school itself, teaching English as a foreign language to rural based women with no previous experience in using the language and in other community based projects.
Soft Power Education focuses on providing education and learning facilities to local orphans and disadvantaged children. It provides the opportunity for these children to have fun, learn basic numeracy and literary skills and provides a forum for children to take part in lessons often overlooked in the main academic timetable such as art, drama, IT, agriculture and science.
The foundation also facilitates community programmes for disadvantaged adults.
We will pay for the entire return trip, accommodation and meals out of our own funds - so every penny you contribute will go to Soft Power Educuation to fund the construction project.
Anything you contribute is greatly appreciated.
Thanks everyone.
Michelle
