Story

The North London Hospice is a great charity and helped look after my freinds Dad before he sadly passed away.

The charity is close to mine and my friends hearts and I need your help in sponsorship to ensure that their great work continues.

The North London Hospice is proud to offer its services free of charge to patients, their families and carers.

Most people are surprised to hear that the hospice receives very little in the way of public funding. In 2006 they received only 22% of their running costs from the local authority. This means the remaining 78% has to be raised through all kinds of fundraising including donations, legacies and our hospice shops. The hospice currently costs over £10,000 a day to run.

They rely heavily on the support, goodwill and generosity of the local community.

About the Hospice: -

North London Hospice cares for those living with a terminal illness in the Borough of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey - a part of London with a diverse population of a million people.

We are a registered charity and all of our services are provided free of charge. In 2003/4 70% of our income came from voluntary donations.

Our support extends to family, friends and carers to ensure they have the help they need to cope with any problems arising from the illness and to rebuild their lives afterwards.

We provide a whole range of services including specialist care and advise on relief of symptoms such as pain, breathing difficulties or mobility problems in order to improve quality of life.

Much of this work takes place in the community through our team of specialist doctors and nurses who advise and support families, GPs and district nurses on the best possible palliative care to enable people to remain in their own homes.

For those requiring additional support we run a day care centre and a 17-bed inpatient unit.

Providing emotional and spiritual support is another important part of what we do and is offered by a team of specially trained social workers and the chaplaincy team.

In tune with the communities that we serve we are a truly multi-faith Hospice. Our team of chaplains are drawn from all the world's major religions and we also have a kosher kitchen and can cater for all other dietary requirements.

Our services are provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in order that we can always be there when needed. Likewise our bereavement service ensure families and friends continue to be supported for up to 14 months following the death of a loved one.
