Story
I have been fortunate to work for the National Domestic Violence Hotline (The Hotline) for over three years. As a Digital Advocate, I spent my days talking to victims and survivors across the country via chat and text, helping identify abusive behaviors in their relationships, collaborating to figure out a safety plan customized for their unique situation, and letting them know they're not alone. I will never forget the hundreds of conversations I had with brave survivors, their family and friends. Though I spend my time off the lines these days, I remain committed to supporting survivors by ensuring The Hotline always has the resources to answer every call, chat and text message from someone reaching out for support.
COVID-19 has brought new challenges for survivors across the country. Our Advocates have heard from thousands of survivors about how abusive partners are using the stress, isolation, and financial strain brought on by the pandemic to further control and abuse. Even when the immediate threat of this virus is over, the long-term effects on survivors' health, safety, and financial security must be a priority. The Hotline will be there every step of the way with emotional support, customized safety planning, and referrals to local resources.
Please join me in building a path to safety for survivors across the United States by making a gift today.
As a recent caller said about The Hotline, "You have been so helpful! I am so thankful this service exists. I truly believe it saved my life. I called The Hotline when I first left my abuser. It was the first of many steps I took to get free."
Calls and chats to The Hotline were up 12% last quarter, and the need is growing. Thank you for supporting me in making a difference!
