Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In what will probably turn out to be an ill-considered and potentially painful 'spur of the moment' decision, I have entered the Plymouth Half Marathon to raise funds for DART International UK's disaster relief operations.
DART International UK are currently working in cyclone hit Vanuatu in the South Pacific in support of the international disaster relief effort. DART's team of professionally qualified and fully equipped volunteers are helping to clear the most obstructive of the thousands of trees uprooted by Cyclone PAM when it tore through the region last weekend, blocking roads, damaging buildings, destroying water supplies and causing widespread flooding. The team are working alongside the local government and other NGO's to clear roads so that aid agencies can deliver much needed food, shelter and medical assistance. As tree professionals, they understand the economic value of timber and will always try to process fallen trees sensitively, so that the wood can be used for the construction of temporary shelters and the reconstruction of local housing.
The charity is entirely run and supported by volunteers, so every penny raised is used directly in support of training and deployment for relief operations.
