Deaf Awareness Week

michael albers is raising money for The National Deaf Children's Society

Deaf Awareness Week · 4 May 2021

We support deaf children and their families to make their future brighter.

Story

In March 2019 we found out our 3.5 year old daughter is deaf. It has been a life changing journey and we have met some incredible people along the way. We started learning British Sign Language, or “Beautiful Special Language” as our deaf tutor says. We believe that everyone should learn this amazing language and for Deaf Awareness Week we will be building some fun resources to do so. The illustration above by two very talented designers and good friends, is just the start.

We are raising money for Deaf Works Everywhere | National Deaf Children's Society. This campaign needs £10,000 and aims to develop career information and resources for deaf young people, parents and professionals. Deaf people can work everywhere yet are twice as likely to be unemployed than hearing peers, believing their career options limited. Deaf Works Everywhere challenges these expectations and aims to show that deaf people can achieve anything.
