Story
My dad and I have always loved motorbikes. Some of my fondest memories as a kid with dad were staying up late (7pm) whilst mum was at work with a little shandy, a bowl of peanuts and watching videos of Barry Sheene! Not to mention the odd trip to Brands Hatch!
Dad never had a motorbike when we were growing up, well, at least a bike that worked! But then in July 2019 Dad received a motorbike for his 60th Birthday from my sister and brother in law. He was made up with it! Then in December 2019 I passed my motorbike test. Finally Dad and I were going to have motorbike adventures. This was a dream come true.
Fate intervened though, and in 2020 as Covid-19 hit the world dad was diagnosed with terminal cancer. This swept over him like a storm and in June 2020, dad was gone.
Dad was a fit and able man, seeing him suffer as he did from this wicked illness was heartbreaking and something I'll never come to terms with. However, during this time we received support from St Wilfrid's Hospice in Eastbourne. The work the hospice does is so valuable, astounding and something I couldn't imagine being able to do. To show my appreciation to St Wilfrid's I would like to raise some money for the hospice.
In memory of my dad, In September 2022, I am planning a solo motorcycle tour of the UK. I plan to circumnavigate the UK (hug the coast) and ride non stop for 3,500 miles over 3 weeks, starting and finishing at St Wilfrid's Hospice.
This is the trip I never got to take with dad, although I'm sure he'll be with me every step.
To make the trip more challenging, I'll be camping most days, I'll have no support and I'll be undertaking this huge ride on my mighty Suzuki Van Van. This is a small capacity 125cc motorbike with a top speed of 55mph! Make no mistake, this trip will be tough!
I hope you can donate my friends, the hospice does some remarkable work and I hope my crazy trip will be worthy of your generous donations!
