As a severely misunderstood mental illness, eating disorders need the power of the people. And right now, Butterfly needs you to join our fight to open the doors of Wandi Nerida, Australia's first residential facility for eating disorders.

Story

UPDATE: This is EPIC! I have been blown away by everyones support and generosity. The shave is officially happening on Sunday 28th Feb. My original goal was to raise $1000, so if we could get to $5000 for Sunday that would be AMAZING! Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

I've created this page in honour of my younger sister Liana, who bravely overcame her struggles with an eating disorder with the help of specialised services, like the Butterfly Foundation.

I hope to raise $2000 to open the doors of Wandi Nerida - the first residential treatment facility for eating disorders in Australia.

A facility like this will be life saving. There are over one million Australians estimated to have an eating disorder, but less than 25% of those people have access specialised treatment they need, and considering anorexia nervosa has the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric disorder, a treatment centre like Wandi Nerida has the power to save many, many lives.

I experienced first hand just how debilitating and all consuming suffering with an eating disorder can be, and I also experienced how incredible it can be to recover and reclaim your life. I am so grateful that my sister Liana, my role model and my best friend, is now flourishing in her life and I hope to re-pay that gift of recovery to someone else's little sister, brother, friend or family member. Together with your donations if we can help even just one person access the help they need, that will be an amazing success.

Helping one person might not change the world, but it could change the world for that one person.

I've decided to shave my head in a show of support for all those who suffer with an eating disorder. It' something I've always wanted to do, and it's also really scary! But this small act of courage is minor in comparison to the courage shown by those who seek help for these disorders.

Bald is less scary when it's for a good cause!

Thank you for your kindness, generosity and support.

Butterfly Foundation is a national organisation offering support for all people affected by an eating disorder and body image concerns. Along with our support services, such as the National ED HOPE Helpline, an Intensive Outpatient Program, an adolescent day program and regular support groups, we also run education programs across the country for young people, parents and professionals on building positive body image and self-esteem. As well as being a leading national voice in supporting those impacted by eating disorders, Butterfly highlights the realities of seeking treatment for recovery, and advocates for improved services from both government and independent sources. Butterfly is dedicated to changing the culture, policy and practice in the prevention and treatment of eating disorders and to raising awareness of eating disorders as a serious social, medical and mental health issue. You can help invest in a positive future for so many. Please support Butterfly's services TODAY. YOU are part of the solution! Thank You.
