My Big Sleep Out · 29 January 2016

We help the homeless or those in hardship to give them a better future

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On the weekend of Friday 29th January I will be living and sleeping rough in shop doorways and alleyways to raise the profile of the homeless and the charities that support them. The first night will be part of the Big Sleep Out organised by the Hope Centre, a drop in centre that supports the homeless daily.

Many homeless are just children when they start living rough on the streets, they've likely run away from a troubled life at home, whereas others may merely have hit on tough times and have spiralled downward. These people are just like you and me. They need our help.

Come Saturday morning when the other fundraisers go home after a 12 hour gruelling ordeal in temperature extremes, I will continue on throughout the weekend. I'll be begging for food and water, whilst fending off the cold, the wet and no doubt drunken yobs. Where I'll sleep I have no idea.

To make the experience more real I will only eat and drink what I am given by passers-by. With a health challenge (or two), this gesture will be particularly hard for me, so please give all you can. In fact it would be hard for anyone.

Don’t forget, I will not be eating or drinking over the weekend unless food or drink is given to me by passers-by. If you’re not too busy, perhaps you could come and find me. I’ll likely be very hungry, very thirsty, not to mention very cold and wet. I suspect my morale and spirits will be very low too. But I guess that’s homelessness, right?
