Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am running on behalf of Whizz-Kidz in memory of my oldest brother, Jonathan.
When Jonathan was 11 months old he contracted a virus which left him with severe physical and mental disabilities. Growing up with Jonathan was an amazing privilege - he was a fantastic and irreplaceable brother.
I have amazing memories of Jonathan, but life wasn't always straightforward and looking back it did seem that everyday activities that lots of families took for granted took on a life of their own – getting out and about for example was not always straightforward. Becoming a parent myself I have begun to get a tiny insight into just what a challenge life must have been.
As a family we really benefited from the support of a charity in buying Jonathan a chair that met his particular needs and allowed him and us to be more active – making everyday activities more straightforward for Jonathan and my parents, and enabling us as a family to do things we had previously found a real challenge.
Jonathan died when I was 10, just over 27 years ago. I consider it a real honour to have had the opportunity to be his brother and I am well excited (as the youth might be heard to say) to be running the London Marathon for Whizz-Kidz.
All the money I raise here will go to support the amazing work that Whizz-Kidz do for children like Jonathan and their families, providing disabled children with the wheelchairs and other mobility equipment that they need to lead fun and active childhoods, but also providing training, support and work experience.
If you are able to support me in any way in raising this money for Whizz-Kidz, that would be great!
You are all awesome and thanks in advance for the support!
Matt
