Aphasia is a language disorder which affects a person’s ability to speak, read, write and understand language. There are an estimated 350,000 people living with a diagnosis of Aphasia in the UK, often the devastating result of a stroke or head injury. Aphasia Support is a registered charity providing tailored speech and language therapy and long-term support to people with Aphasia, and their carers. The charity aims to improve the quality of life for people with Aphasia, helping them to regain control, confidence and independence. With your kindness and generosity, we can create a world where every person with Aphasia has access to support and can communicate with confidence.

Story

Thanks for checking out this page. I'm running/jogging/crawling the York 10K to raise money for Aphasia Support. Now if you know me, you'll know that while I have done this before, it was some time ago and I was a) younger, b) carrying a little less 'junk in the trunk'. This is seriously going to be a challenge this time around and I've two months to prepare for it ... ! If you're not already you can follow my progress on Instagram @the_running_mare

So what is Aphasia? It's a speech and language disorder, often as a result of stroke, which leaves someone needing to learn how to speak again. Aphasia Support is a small local Yorkshire charity that provides incredible practical help with this. If you've ever seen someone after a stroke, you'll know how important this is.

Please do consider making a small donation on this page (and ticking the Gift Aid box if you can!) Not only will you be supporting a great local cause, but you also get to laugh at me hauling my not-inconsiderable-lycra-clad-bulk across the city of York on Sunday 6th August! :-)
