Story

Thanks for visiting my JustGiving page!

The Donald Woods Foundation is our family-run charity named after my father, following his death in 2001. It supports programmes in health, education and community-building across South Africa, with its major focus on projects in Mbashe - the area of South Africa where both Nelson Mandela and Donald were born.

Most of this area suffers around 89% unemployment and desperately requires the most basic of building resources for education and health programmes. To date we have built 14 clinics for HIV and TB patients and Orphans and Vulnerable Children. We totally rely on grants and donations for our work.

WHAT WE DO WITH THE MONEY YOU DONATE

The money you donate will allow us to invest in vital equipment and capacity-building. Every amount counts - it costs just £3.95 to screen one adult or child on an outreach day and this small amount can help save lives.  It is particularly critical in testing pregnant mothers, so HIV is not passed on to their babies – a vital component in our Orphans and Vulnerable Children programme.

Further details on our work are on www.DonaldWoodsFoundation.org

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

About the charity

The Donald Woods Foundation is dedicated to fighting poverty through education, health and community-building programmes in South Africa. Current programmes include screening over 1,000 people a month for HIV, supporting and caring for those who are HIV positive and an orphans and vulnerable children programme. The new 100 schools programme is designed to address any and every aspect of a school's development in deeply impoverished, rural communities, working in partnership with the Dept of Education.
