Story

Mark Ballamy was a talented pianist and a popular, sociable man. He had many friends around the world with some dating back to his RAF service days. Mark continued to make friends throughout his life well into his 80's and often met them through his love of jazz. He played with some great musicians of all generations including Tubby Hayes, Kathy Stobart, Dick Morrisey and Peter King. One of his proudest achievements was recording his own album 'Spirit of Summer' in 2008 with Iain Ballamy, Steve Watts and Martin France. Mark was a jazz musician for over 60 years and played everywhere from working men's clubs to Ronnie Scott's. He took a young Iain to Ronnie's in the late 1970's where they met both Dizzy Gillespie and Stan Getz. Mark's musical legacy lives on through his son and grandsons.

The family has chosen to support The Ronnie Scott's Charitable Foundation in Mark's memory. Your donations will help support their valuable work with young, aspiring jazz musicians.

Thank you.
