Its Booked and Back The Gaz Shearer Cup golf tournament at St Cuthbert's Golf Club on Friday 04th October 2024. Winners Prestwick GC 2021, lets see who will be next to be on the trophy.

After what has been a devastating loss to the the family are delighted to treasure memory of my late Dad, Gary Shearer, through fundraising for the charity SSAFA. SSAFA is a charity organisation who help those in the Armed Forces, Veterans and the families of both. They work with over 5000 volunteers and help with issues including financial, practical or emotional struggles. This charity has worked closely with my family several times during and after army life and we are extremely grateful.

Those that knew Gary often described him as a loveable rogue. He loved army life and both him and his brother Mark carried on the career after their own father and grandfather and so on. Gary spent his entire life as if he was still 17 and always lived for the moment that presented him. He was forever comforted by wildlife and nature when he wasn’t surrounding himself by friends in the local pubs. He spent many of his days caddying at Old Prestwick Golf Course or playing golf with friends. He was a man of very basic lifestyle who enjoyed small things in life. Though he may not have had much himself he would never not stop at the homeless or vulnerable person on the streets… for a 20 minute background story and would often leave with a new buddy. His character will live on forever through each person who adored him as we do.

Over the years we plan to raise as much as possible in his name and memory.

As there are likely hundreds who were not able to attend his funeral or end of life celebrations we are more than happy for anybody to join us, give suggestions, event ideas or simply support us! Just contact anybody named above. This charity is one close to our hearts with the military connection that continues through Gary’s son Brandon and we will be donating all funds to the Ayrshire Branch here therefore any donations big or small are hugely appreciated and welcomed!
