Where to begin......
For those of you who know Carmen & myself I think you would agree we are made for one another (just by the fact she can manage to put up with me is a big plus!)
Carmen developed Breast Cancer 4 years ago which is before we met and she had a long journey to recovery, but recover she did and although it never completely left her, it was certainly at the very far corners of her mind that it would appear again.
Following a recent routine check up 16 scan images went by with no sinister signs and then the doctor conducting the scan went quiet on images 17 & 18 (I'll never forget the numbers!!), we knew something was not quite right. We then went to see the specialist immediately after who confirmed the devastating news that a new cancer had emerged in the same area.
It came as such a blow to Carmen, myself and of course Lauren her daughter (and all of our family, friends and colleagues), you automatically fear the worst, but despite all that, Carmen has now had the necessary operation and lots of checks (and poking and prodding!!), but with every major operation or illness lots of drugs follow, one of which is Chemotherapy. As most of you will know it is not very pleasant to say the least!! and for women the worst thing (apart from the sickness for some of you) is losing your hair.
This is obviously a big deal for Carmen (although she won't admit it!!), so to help ease the trauma a little and to raise money for one of the most important causes in my view, I have decided to shave my hair off for charity at the same time as Carmen, June 11th. As some of you will know being as vain as I am, it's not something I welcome with open arms, but my knees couldn't cope with a marathon!! It's just my small way of supporting Carmen emotionally and supporting Cancer Research UK financially.
Most of you know someone who has been affected by this awful disease so please give what you can, every pound helps. That's if you have not fell asleep already, by reading this!!
Thank you again,
Mark & Carmen :-)
PS thank you to Beth for her inspiration x
PPS, for friends & colleagues that are donating offline, we have a sponsorship form which is doing really well. My real goal was to reach £1000.00 and I am hoping we will still get there before Saturday. Thank you sooooo much for all of your support :-)
