Story
We are Mark Finch & Martyn Goldsborough and on the 10th of September we are setting off on a 900 mile cycle ride from John o' Groats to Land's End over the course of 12 days. We are doing this to raise money for Alzheimer's Research UK and to raise awareness of the work this charity does in the fight against dementia. This challenge will be completely self-supported (no support vehicles or crew) and self-funded, therefore: 100% of your donation will go to the charity.
Alzheimer's Research UK fund pioneering research that will make a real difference to people’s lives both now and in the future. Their researchers have been making huge advances in understanding the diseases that cause dementia as well as investing in drug discovery programmes that give them the best chance of delivering effective new treatments for people with dementia.
Combined government and charity investment in dementia research is 6.4 times lower than cancer research. Raising investment in dementia research to a similar level will help to drive forward much-needed progress towards a cure. So please help us in our fight against dementia and make a donation.
Martyn says: Completing an "end to end" ride is something I hoped to achieve ever since I started cycling. When Mark and I started riding together we realised it was a goal that we shared. With Mark championing Alzheimer's Research UK as our work charity of the year we were given the ideal opportunity to realise this goal and raise money for an excellent charity.
Mark says: My grandad, Mervyn, passed away after a battle with dementia and I saw first-hand the effects of this awful disease not only on my grandad but, indirectly, how it affected other family members. It is hard to see someone you love struggling to recognise their family. Dementia research is seriously underfunded so please help me raise money for this great charity.
