Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Lots of people found lockdown tough, I am fortunate in having a lovely home with a garden space, this meant I could go outside, enjoy fresh air and be safe. Not everyone was so lucky. Lockdown has taken its toll on the mental health of so many people and I worry we won't know the true impact until well after the pandemic has passed. Something so basic as sharing a conversation face to face, socialising with people when you have no-one at home to talk to, or being able to escape to a safe welcoming environment - unfortunately, not everyone's home is a place of safety.
GalGael offers activities that help people reclaim skills and a sense of worth, it provides a meeting place, a work space and a community (and always - a bowl of soup!). Like many charities they have been hit hard during the pandemic and are in need of support, be it funding or volunteers, or all the other things required to keep an organisation going. I have huge respect for GalGael and I want to help - but how?
At my age :-) I don't have the inclination to run a marathon (dodgy knees), or hand glide off a mountain (scared of heights) or swim the Channel (I can't swim!), however, I am willing to give up something I love to raise money for a good cause and that thing is FOOD! During lockdown, I baked - it started because initially there were shortages and then because it was therapeutic. The outcome was a 10 pounds weight gain! So ..... I aim to get that 10 pounds back off and I am looking for sponsors for this very good cause (that's GalGael, not me!). GalGael is not just a good cause, it's a life saving cause - and I don't say that lightly. Please, please, please, dig deep into your pockets and give what you can afford - every single penny will make a difference, trust me! And, if you can't afford money, give of your time, they need volunteers. Thank you all in advance, I know how extremely generous my friends can be :-)
I will get someone very trustworthy to take my starting weight and my finishing weight. We have a holiday planned, we leave mid November, so I plan to achieve my target by November 12th 2021 (8 weeks). Go on, give me some encouragement!
