Story
In June last year Richard Pover, or Po as we all knew him, lost his battle with testicular cancer aged just 22. In honour of his incredible spirit and the great support he received from Western Park Hospital, a dozen of us from Po's Sheffield uni clan will be walking from Sheffield, where we all met, to his family home in Tarporley, Cheshire.
Po was diagnosed with testicular cancer in November 2011 when he should have been enjoying the start of his third year at uni, but showing the determination that he would maintain throughout his treatment he decided to stay in Sheffield. Po was treated at the Weston Park Hospital which is one of only four specialist cancer hospitals in the country, where he not only received the best possible treatment but he and his family also enjoyed the great support of the staff. Much credit is due to the wonderful teenage cancer unit that made his time there as comfortable as it could have been.
We kick off our walk on the morning of the 14th of June, crossing the peak district, fighting our way through Macclesfield on a saturday night and arriving in Tarporley 63 miles and 24 hours later for tea and medals.
