Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On the 4th April 2015 we embark on one of the biggest challenges of our lives as we take part in the Marathon Des Sables.
The Marathon des Sables (MDS) (Marathon of the Sands) is a six-day, 254 km (156 mile) ultra marathon, which is the equivalent to six regular marathons. The longest single stage is 85 km (51 miles) long.
This multiday race is held every year in the southern Moroccan desert. It is considered the toughest foot race on Earth. The first event of the Marathon started in 1986 and each year has approx. 800 competitors from all around the world.
In temperatures that regularly exceed 100 degrees F, over rough terrain (including 30 miles of sand dunes) competitors not only battle physical but mental fatigue. This is made even more difficult in that we will carry all our requirements for the week including our food and sleeping bag.
Allan Dowie completed the challenge in 2010 and it has taken 5 years to convince Mr Lunn how much he will enjoy putting his body and mind through hell !!
To drive us on for this challenge we wanted to raise funds for a worthwhile Charity and we decided on the NSPCC who are the leading Children’s charity fighting to end child abuse. They help children who have been abused to rebuild their lives, protect those at risk and find the best ways of preventing abuse from ever happening.
Thank you for your support.
