Story
I ran the Glasgow Half Marathon in 2001 and it only took me another 22 years to commit to doing the full shebang! I didn't run at all for about 10 of those years but got back in to running in 2019. Last year I realised that, every year I said I'd run a marathon one day, I was another year older so it was time to bite the bullet and sign up.
I feel privileged to have been given the opportunity to raise funds for Scottish Women's Aid and knowing that I'm committed to this cause has helped me keep going on the long training runs. The funds I raise will help them to:
• Ensure that all of the amazing local Women’s Aid groups in Scotland carry on delivering support to women, children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse. On any given day, Women’s Aid groups across Scotland provide advice and services to over 1000 women, children and young people.
• Run a vital helpline service - Scotland’s 24-Hour Domestic Abuse and Forced Marriage Helpline to ensure help and support is always available
• Carry out their crucial role in campaigning and lobbying for effective responses to domestic abuse
• Provide effective and innovative domestic abuse training to ensure professionals from all sectors are equipped to respond effectively and appropriately
