Maisie Mary Tripp born 22/10/20.

Maisie was diagnosed with suspected coarctation of aorta at 24 week scan. This was shocking but we hoped one operation would fix the problem and she’d live a happy life not effected by it too much.

Unfortunately after birth and her being taken to the NICU to be checked and scanned we discovered her poor little heart had many more problems. Her first few days of life were incredibly difficult as she developed  pneumothorax on her lungs and had to be ventilated. She seemed to stabilise after this and things began to look more positive and she was considered for an operation in Dublin to help her grow in preparation for other operations to help her heart. Each day was a roller coaster ride and had ups and downs but she was such a little fighter.

She then developed pulmonary hypertension every time they removed some medicine she was on and it was this that made things so difficult for her. Several medications were tried but sadly none of them worked for Maisie.

Throughout all of her treatment the staff at the unit were so compassionate and thoughtful not only towards Maisie but towards us as well going out of their way to make us comfortable and keeping us informed about everything. We always felt Maisie was safe and being looked after when we had to leave her each day/ night and if it wasn’t for the amazing staff there this would have been made so much harder.

Even during the toughest day we’ll ever experience they went out of their way to help us make memories with Maisie and our family and we’ll forever be grateful to them and specifically Sophie, Grace and Wendy who supported us through Maisie’s last day/ night.

No parent should have to go through losing a baby or child but we are forever grateful for the time and love that was shown to Maisie during her life.
