Story
I am raising money for the Kosher Food Bank because it is helping Holocaust survivors and Jewish families who are unable to get food from Miami-Dade County’s regular food banks because of the need to maintain a Kosher diet.
This issue is important to me, especially as I prepare to become a Bat Mitzvah. I’ve seen people on the streets in need of food, and I always felt that I could be doing something to help them. It’s saddening to know that it is hard for some families to not only get food on a daily basis but to get specifically Kosher food.
The Kosher Food Bank, run by Jewish Community Services, serves 400 families and nearly 70 Holocaust survivors in our community, offering critically important items and daily necessities. After all that these survivors went through, they still have trouble getting Kosher food to be able to eat a nourishing meal. The Kosher Food Bank is looking out for these families. Kosher Food Bank also evaluates people’s overall needs and arranges for support services. Because dignity is valued, private one-on-one appointments are scheduled to “shop” for food.
This is my way to help a part of our Jewish community that struggles with food insecurity. My goal is to raise $1,500 from family and friends and I pledge $250 from my savings.
