Story
With winter finally settling in and the coldest months being
dead ahead of us, the communities we support are in dire need of specific items. Tents, tarpaulin, thermal sleeping bags and warm, waterproof clothing are needed now more than ever. Even now, we are performing daily distributions of these items to new arrivals, and in response to the regular police evictions that occur.
With a late summer and with sudden changes in policies
within and surrounding Europe, the population is currently higher than ever at this time of year, with almost 700 people still displaced here on the northern coast of France.
MRS continues to be one of the only organisations in Dunkirk
regularly distributing essential tents and sleeping bags to those sleeping rough. Anyone caught without one of these vital items would instead be forced to sleep in the woods without any protection or privacy, often in weather that can reach as low as -10° Celsius.
Now we are entering the bitter winter period, it is absolutely vital that we can continue to provide tents and sleeping bags to those who are forced to sleep rough in the woods. Police interventions and clearances have only continued to increase, putting huge pressure on our stock of essential supplies.
We are able to buy a two-man tent for £10, and a sleeping
bag for £5.
