Multiple Myeloma is  type of Bone Marrow Cancer that affects the production of good blood cells and results in bone pain, fractures, reduced immunity and organ damage. Its basically small tumors growing in the bone marrow. There is no cure at this time - but treatment can very effective at halting progress, controlling symptoms and improving quality of life. 

Ro was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in August 2019 at the age of 47. After 16 straight weeks of Chemo, he then underwent 2 bone marrow transplants. Its been over a year since the last transplant and he is stable and doing really well. 

As with many Charities during the COVID pandemic, Myeloma Australia's ability to be able to fundraise and spread the message and support has been severely restricted. Myeloma Australia is the only Australian Myeloma specific not-for-profit organisation. They support, educate, inform, empower and bring hope to people who are living with myeloma, and their loved ones. They also facilitate Myeloma research in Australia; educate health professionals involved in the care and treatment of those living with Myeloma; raise community awareness and understanding of Myeloma; and advocate for improved patient access to the latest treatments at affordable prices. 

Personally, we have benefited greatly from the information they provide to help with coping strategies, new treatments, and creation of local and national support networks. It has really helped us feel that we are not alone, and it's comforting to know that there are so many people working to improve the lives of people with Multiple Myeloma.
