Story

MAKE SENSE OF IT (MSOI) was set up by Jonelle Roback in 2015.

Jonelle was diagnosed with with MS in 2009 and lives with the, at times, debilitating condition on a daily basis. During a particularly bad relapse in 2015, Jonelle decided to 'give back' to the charity that had helped her, so set up MSOI as a purely fundraising platform so that every penny raised goes towards the chosen projects.

MSOI up until now has funded an MS Society Research Project and Grants for people with MS. As the research project is now fully funded, MSOI will now be raising money to fund a new MS Specialist Nurse for the MS Society Nurses Helpline.  There has been an increased demand for this Helpline service as a consequence of the Covid-19 crisis.

MS Specialist Nurses (MSSNs) play a vital role in helping people manage the complex and unpredictable symptoms of MS, the medication they may take for it and coordinating the services that they need. MSSNs work across the whole disease trajectory, providing expert information and decision support as well as proactive case management to respond to acute deteriorations and relapses. Their interventions prevent secondary complications which can be disabling or life threatening and result in unscheduled care.

Jonelle herself called on the helpline during the pandemic as she was being denied the medication she needed to prevent a relapse and as a result of the Helpline, MSSN and the MS Society getting involved ,was able to be given her monthly infusion medication so as not to interrupt her MS treatment, others were not so fortunate. Throughout the pandemic, there are many accounts from people in the MS community, who were unable to access vital information services and treatments....As a result the MS Specialist Nursing Helpline Service was set up to ensure everyone with MS could obtain one-to-one support from a specialist healthcare professional.

MSOI is proud to be fundraising for a new MS Specialist Nurse that will be able to help people access much-needed advice, support and guidance.

MSOI relies solely on sponsorship for all events as well as great support from the MS Society.
