Story
Luna entered the world on 31st August 2021. We had 7 weeks and 2 days of incredible love and cuddles at home before Luna become suddenly unwell. After taking Luna to A&E, we were transferred to Paediatric Intensive Care in Leeds where she was later found to have a rare heart condition, left ventricular noncompaction cardiomyopathy, with severe dilation and mitral regurgitation.
Luna's heart did not improve with the limited treatment available and worsened after an attempt to take her off the ventilator. With no further treatment available, Luna was given just hours to live but once home, Luna surpassed all medical expectations, started to breastfeed again and gave so many smiles. Luna returned to Leeds for a review, and started a new medication to support her heart. We had every hope that she would in time be added to the transplant list.
Devastatingly, our beautiful warrior Luna left us on 1st December, 3 months and 1 day old.
During both admissions to Leeds, The Sick Children's Trust provided us with accommodation opposite the hospital. This was particularly helpful during Luna's admission to Cardiology when restrictions meant that only mummy could be with Luna on the ward overnight, but daddy could be close-by. The Sick Children's Trust provide this free of charge and rely entirely on donations.
We intend, in time, to do different fundraising activities for the charities that supported us but for now we wanted to create this page so people can donate in memory of Luna who we love and miss beyond measure.
"For never before in story or rhyme (not even once upon a time), has the world ever known a you my friend, and it never will, not ever again."
To the moon and back, Lunakin. Always in your heart, and always in ours.
Thank you.
