These times of uncertainty are difficult for all of us and over the past few weeks we have seen may examples of ordinary people going above and beyond to help others (our careers, health care professionals and Captain Tom to name a few!). Now we would like our families at Loscoe to help raise funds for those less fortunate than us in Kolkata, India.

Over the past 6 weeks Mrs Wyer, Miss Sylvester and Miss Martin have been in contact with teachers and charity workers at the CRS (the charity that we volunteer for each January in India) and if you have seen any news about India recently you will know that there are millions of people, adults and children starving. The CRS charity is working exceptionally hard, day and night to get vital, life saving supplies to those children and families at G B Lane school and other schools run by the charity. 

We would like your help with ‘Loscoe’s Big May Challenge”. As a school and community we would like you to help by running, walking, cycling, scooting, skate boarding, skating, crawling (if you want to!) from Loscoe to Kolkata! It is a very long way, 5, 794miles! But hopefully we can do this together, you, your siblings, parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts- anyone who would like to join! All you will need to do is add up your miles and send them to awyer@loscoe.derbyshire.sch.uk either at the end of each week or at the end of May. 

 We will keep a running total and share updates of how far we have travelled as a school community. You could choose to do a mile a day for the month or maybe a few miles each weekend or one longer walk at some point during the month. It could be done in your house, garden or local area.  Any miles already completed in May can also be added to the total.

We appreciate that this is also a very difficult time for our families in Loscoe but if you would like to, and are able to get sponsorship for your part of the journey that would be fantastic. Even just £1 can make a massive difference to a family in Kolkata. But you don’t need to raise money to be part of the challenge- by donating your miles we can complete this challenge together! 

All money raised will be donated to Cathedral Relief Service’s Covid-19 lockdown appeal helping get vital supplies to the poorest family in Kolkata, including families from our link school, G B Lane.
