Story

Together YOU and I CAN make a difference.  Please donate what you can and importantly THANK YOU -  all funds go directly to the care and support of patients and their families

Lorrett: Being an only child my life revolved around Mum and Dad - my safety blanket, my everything.  Suddenly, I lost my Dad at 13 and my world shattered.  It was Mum who got me through with  amazing love and support, my rock, the hand behind my back supporting me.  Mum was then diagnosed with terminal cancer and again the world was scary. This is where St Andrew’s Hospice stepped in supporting Mum and me.  Through their kindness and care Mum and I were able to enjoy her last moments and create memories that I can hold dear in my heart.  They even organised a birthday party where Mum and I celebrated, and felt normal for the day!  Through their specialist care she managed to attend my Cousin’s wedding, one of her final wishes.  They organised transportation with a Nurse by her side throughout.  I will be forever in their debt and why I must take on this challenge.

Claire - Growing up, every Friday my Nanny had a bonus ball competition costing £1 - 50p would go into a tin and 50p to winner's pot.  When tin was full, those 50p’s made their way to our Hospice. As far back as I can remember, I have been supporting the hospice in some way shape or form.  Now working here, I am proud to say I do it every day.  Now it’s time to practice what I preach…. that and burn enough calories to reward myself with a kebab or two.

The world is a crazy place right now but St Andrew’s Hospice has been here throughout, a steady ship supporting patients and their families, allowing them to create their own special memories and moments for the future but they need our help desperately.

St. Andrew’s Hospice endeavours to provide a high standard of specialist palliative care to the people of Lanarkshire.  As Lanarkshire's only specialist palliative care hospice, we provide multidisciplinary support for our patients, their families and carers. Whilst we receive funding from NHS Lanarkshire and other sources, this only partially covers our running costs. Continued provision of these services is only made possible by the generosity and assistance of the people of Lanarkshire.
