Story
Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to visit this page in memory of my mum.
For over 10 years, my mum had been living, and successfully managing, an auto-immune condition called Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS) which causes an increased risk of blood clots.
Following an operation, mum suffered a very rare complication from this condition which caused lots of blood clots to develop in her body which affected her major organs.
Thanks to the excellent healthcare professionals at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, my mum made a recovery from this complication. She was back to her old self, receiving physiotherapy in preparation for leaving the hospital and looking forward to the future. Sadly, mum died from an underlying heart-related issue later in the week. She passed away aged 63 on Friday 10th June.
I’ve seen how ill this condition can make loved ones, but I’ve also seen how research into the condition and various treatments available can save lives.
I am so thankful to the haematology and vascular teams who through their care and expertise managed to help mum turn a corner after being critically ill. The memories I have of my mum from my final visits are ones of happiness and optimism, not worry.
There’s no target or expectation for this page. I truly appreciate any donation in memory of my mum, and I know she would be so thankful too.
