This year we are doing a family fundraiser day for Love Oliver on Saturday 24th September between 11am to 5pm at our house. Leon had so hoped to be part of the kilt walk this year, but this dream sadly has been taken from him at this time. Last year (September), Leon’s leg / knee pain had got so extreme that when he attended his routine oncology appointment the discussions were surrounding reducing his school days yet again or do something for his muscle weaknesses and chronic pain. The decision made was to put our precious boy on 24 hour morphine tablets, topped up with stronger morphine when he needs it (which is often). Leon gets intense daily physio at home and weekly hospital physio sessions, as well as hydrotherapy when he needs it. These unfortunately are the side effects of the gruelling daily chemotherapy and lasting effects of monthly vincristine chemo. Although Leon is in his 2nd year of remission, sadly cure comes with a cost. 

Love Oliver has a special place in our family’s hearts, as they provide a vast range of invaluable practical support for families affected by childhood cancer. One of which is their Love Oliver cafe, which is situated across the road from the hospital and this gives families a warm, safe, welcoming break from the sterile hospital environment. We have spent many of appointments over at the cafe between specialist consultations and while waiting for medication or blood test results. This place helps all the family forget about the hospital when it’s needed the most. 

As well as the cafe, Love Oliver are also committed to funding vital research into childhood cancer each year - to help find causes, gentler treatments and ultimately- cures. 

To us Love Oliver are more than just a charity, Jennifer and Andy are friends and we are extremely grateful to be part of the Love Oliver family. Be assured that any donation you can make small or large, is very much appreciated and will be put to good use.

There is also a Love Oliver shop at Glenrothes Kingdom Centre selling a large range of donated children’s toys, books, clothes etc. Please pay the shop a visit and feel free to donate unused toys etc if possible. We will be collecting donations for the shop on 24th, as well as having toybola, cake n candy, love Oliver stall, guess the teddy’s birthday and character visits throughout the day.
