We provide support to melanoma patients to help deal with the disease/fund research

Story

Debbie Ames, Amanda Bilton, Kev Davies, Tracy Davies, Dan Jolin, Tim Neal, Nigel Neal and Andy Rogers will all be putting their cycle shorts on (with plenty of padding) to cycle 54 miles from London to Brighton on 17 September 2017.  It has to be said the majority of us are not experienced cyclists but we are challenging ourselves to raise as much money as possible for Melanoma UK to help the charity to:

  • continue their important work in supporting families and individuals living with the disease
  • raise awareness of melanoma and how to look for the early signs
  • assist financially enabling research of melanoma to take place

Skin cancer is often thought of as a less frightening type of cancer however, this type of cancer is on the rise and it is important to have an early diagnosis to give the best chance of survival.  The majority of sufferers are aged between 19 and 34 years old.

Kev and Tracy lost their son, and Dan his brother-in-law, Ross, to the disease.   Ross was misdiagnosed in September 2015 with a benign spitz nevus that turned out to be a malignant melanoma.  He passed away January 2017 at the age of 27 just over 8 weeks from diagnosis.
Ross' family and friends wish to work towards other parents and families not experiencing the same heartache.

Melanoma UK was set up in 2007 in memory of Jon Herron. We support patients and families affected by melanoma (skin cancer) and funds raised help to provide that support. We are funding much needed melanoma nurses along with help in vital research. Melanoma is a cruel disease, still without a cure.
