Story
Hi, we’re Lola and Rumi, twins born prematurely to Mum, Dominique and Dad, Alex on 20 May, 2021.
Like 1 in 9 babies in the UK, we needed to stay in the neonatal intensive care unit after we were born. Neonatal units & their SUPERHERO nurses care for sick and premature babies like us born from 27 weeks onwards.
Not only are we tiny (just over 3 & 4lbs), but at 35 weeks our lungs weren’t developed and we couldn’t breathe without help. This was very scary for Mum & Dad.
The air we breathed
A magic machine called the Fabian Ventilator meant we are here today. It does 3 things; it opened our lungs for us in the first few days when we couldn’t; it gave us oxygen when we found it tiring to breathe, and finally, it gave us a boost of humidified oxygen into our lungs when we started getting a little bit stronger.
Please donate
250 of the 400 babies coming through intensive care need to use the Fabian. It costs £12,000. This means the cost of providing breath to a single baby is just £48.
If you can, please consider making a donation of £48 (or any amount you can spare) to Whittington Babies and help the next baby in need of air. We, and all our other baby friends, will be eternally grateful to you. Thank you for all of your love and emotional support for our Mummy & Daddy.
Thank you :) xx
