Story
"It is easy to forget how precious it is to be healthy and alive".
I am running my first Half Marathon, based in Cardiff in aid of the European Cancer Stem Cell Research Institute. The importance of such research is unquestionable with most of us being affected directly or indirectly by cancer: in the UK, nearly 300,00 new cases are diagnosed annually.
The work of the charity: Cancer stem cells offer the potential to transform the way we tackle disease. There is evidence that they play a key role in the creation and growth of tumours, and the way they spread around the body. If this is correct, it may be possible to treat cancer more effectively by concentrating on the stem cells alone, rather than all the cells in the tumour, as current treatments do.
I will also be running this marathon in loving memory of my wonderfully brave step Grandad Terry and my second cousin Katherine.
Any donation would be greatly appreciated and together we can help beat cancer.
