Story
I'm taking action to end period shame in the UK by 2025 and replace it with a positive narrative that empowers girls to feel confident about themselves and their bodies.
Period poverty and shame are preventing women and girls from realising their full potential around the world:
In the UK, 1 in 7 girls and young women don't know what a period is when they first start menstruating.
In Uganda, 78% of girls and young women lack basic knowledge about their own bodies and what a period is. Over half are missing school.
BUT with your donation, I am fighting to change these narratives!
In May 2020, my boyfriend and I are going to be walking 106km over 24hours around the Isle Of Wight. Follow our trainining on instagram at @lizzieandjoshgowalking. *UPDATE* This walk event has been cancelled due to COVID-19, however we will be taking part in the next walk of this length as soon as we can.
In July 2020 I will also be taking part in Irise's Empower Period Expedition - a 6 day trek up Weissman Peak and a learning exchange conference in Uganda. *UPDATE* I will be doing this Expedition and Conference next year.
With your donation, we can transform a cycle of shame into a cycle of empowerment. Enabling women and girls to access the support, products and information they need to feel happy and healthy during their periods.
Thank you!!
Please note some of my fundraising total may contribute towards my expenses for the Empower Period Expedition.
