We raise funds for GCU in South Africa to help change and improve communities

Story

In 2019, Little Champs held its first Christmas appeal in aid of local charity Goal 50. The children from our classes donated sports equipment, preloved clothing and trainers, which we donated to the charity for their Kit Exchange. The equipment was destined for the children at a new crèche facility in one of the charity’s townships in South Africa.

Sadly, shortly afterwards, the pandemic hit. And it hit the townships hard. The Goal50 team have been unable to visit their communities for almost 2 years. The effects have been devastating.

This year, the team are still unable to visit or get sports kit across to the townships, so I have decided to raise money for them instead. The money will support their whole range of amazing projects, which you can read about on their website www.goal50.com. Anything you can give will make a huge difference to children who really need it.

Thank you x

The townships of the Cape Flats exist on a vast plain to the north of Cape Town and have a reputation for violence, crime, drugs and unemployment. Gang mentality scores. Family can be undervalued. Love can be absent. The vision of Goal50 is to support an on-the-ground team working toward change in community where relationships are valued and individuals prosper. Goal50 provides resources for GCU - a Cape Town charity that began in the year 2001. What started as an activity that rescued street children through the universal language of football, has now become a life support operation impacting on nearly 5,000 people each week. The chart in the section headed Projects demonstrates how donations impact on the community.
