Story

Lisa has set herself the challenge to teach for 24 hours, non-stop, to raise money for the British Horse Society (BHS) and their Second Chance Fund.

We have named this crazy challenge; her 'Teachathon'.

Lisa would be very grateful if you could sponsor her any amount even if it is just £1 which would go directly to the BHS and help support their future work (see their mission statement below). It is her way of saying thank you for all the support they have given to us over the course of the Covid pandemic and to help them continue their important work going forward regarding the welfare of horses.

The British Horse Society is a charity whose mission is topromote and advance the education, training; and safety of the public in all matters relating to the horse. To promote the use, breeding, well-being, safety, environment, health, and management of the horse for the public benefit and to promote community participation in healthy recreation involving the horse.

In the last year, the BHS have been fundamental in helping their approved centres to deal with the Covid pandemic as we faced the reality of trying to keep our horses well and cared for with no form of income or staff. Many Centres sadly decided to permanently close their doors and for the remainder of us, we faced a bleak future.

The BHS provided their Centres with emotional support and advice, seven days a week, constantly advising us of the constantly shifting guidelines and the repercussions that they would have on our industry. They realised that despite the government grants, this was not anywhere near sufficient for riding schools to be able to survive and as a result set about raising funds of over £1,000,000 to provide grants to help cover the cost of feed, bedding, vets bills and farriery. It was this lifeline that allowed many of us to be able to reopen when we were eventually allowed.

Another side effect of the pandemic was the overwhelming need for equine charities to rehome horses to suitable homes. The restriction in movement only added to the pressure. The BHS have combined with the RSPCA to rescue and rehome equines in need, a cause most of you know is close to Barguse's heart. Two of our latest additions Pixie and Pansy, are from a joint BHS / RSPCA project but there are hundredsmore horses in need.

The Second Chance Fund is a BHS initiative that raises money to provide funding to cover transportation, vets’ fees, microchipping and passports so that ponies can be rehomed into approved centres so that they are well cared for and have a role and purpose in life. Any funding will be utilised by the BHS to support the RSPCA in this project, and other equine charities that wish to participate going forward. The BHS can only continue to support the welfare of equines thanks to donations from the public.

Any amount you can donate will be much appreciated.

Thank you.
