Story
Lucy recently celebrated her 8th birthday!
She was brought to Second Chance Pet Adoptions in 2014, after being pulled from a rural high volume county shelter. She was a very pregnant stray and her time was up at the shelter. She was scheduled for euthanasia the next day.
Fortunately, Second Chance was there to help in her time of need. She gave birth to 10 healthy puppies at our adoption center, and after being a good mother to them, she was ready to begin her road to recovery. She was treated for the Ehrlichia and Heartworm disease she had. She was dewormed, vaccinated, spayed and microchipped. She received good food to help her to gain weight and help her beautiful coat to grow in. Most of all, she was given lots of love from staff and volunteers. After several months, my husband and I were honored to officially adopt Lucy and 7 years later, she has truly been the best dog anyone could ever ask for. She lives with 3 Second Chance kitties (Luke , Finn and Newt) and often comes to work with me, volunteering as an official Second Chance cat tester.
She makes us smile every day and we are so grateful that Second Chance could be there for her. We couldn't imagine life without her and it breaks our hearts to think that she was once scheduled for such a terrible fate.
As special as Lucy is to us, she is not unique. She is one example of the more than 16,000 cats and dogs Second Chance has saved since 1987. Her story reminds us that there are thousands of amazing animals out there right now, facing homelessness, injury, illness and death, who deserve our help.
We hope you will wish Lucy a happy 8th birthday with a donation to our Racing for Rescues event to help more animals like her, so that they too can have a second chance at life, love and many happy birthdays of their own!
Thank you so much!
Lisa , Dave and Lucy, Luke, Finn, and Newt!
