We break down barriers that hold girls back to make sure every girl can go to school.

Story

Hey guys!

Welcome to our Just Giving page...

We're raising money for two fantastic charities:

1. The Malala Fund UK - works for a world where every girl can learn and lead. At this moment in time, nearly 130 million girls are out of school and the Malala Fund focuses on accelerating their progress by challenging systems, policies and practises all around the world so all girls can access 12 years of free, safe quality education. The Malala Fund is based in 8 different countries and has raised over £18 million in fund programmes.

Malala Yousafzai was born in 1997 and became an education activist in Pakistan. Whilst speaking out publicly on behalf of girls and their rights to learn, she became a target in 2012 and was shot in the head by a masked gunman who boarded her school bus. Malala woke up ten days later in hospital. After months of surgeries and rehabilitation she settled in the UK and in 2014 she became the youngest ever Nobel Peace Prize winner. In 2020 Malala graduated from Oxford University and continues her charity work to this day…

Here’s more about the charity:

The Malala Fund believes that local educators and advocates provide the greatest insight, innovation and energy needed to address barriers that keep girls out of school in their communities. Their 'Girl Programme' gives girls the tools they need to advocate for education and equality in their communities and a platform for the world to hear their voices.

By supporting youth activists, investing in local organisations and amplifying the voices of young women, the Malala Fund is creating a world where girls have the agency to address the barriers standing in the way of their dreams. Within the next five years the Malala Fund will increase their investment and expand to 10 countries, at a rate of two countries per year.

2. Pingalwara Charitable Society UK - Pingalwara literally means ‘a home for people with disabilities’ and caters to the needs of the terminally sick. It is primarily a rescue-home for the poor, helpless and injured. Pingalwara was founded by Bhagat Puran Singh. It is a home for the homeless, a hope for the forlorn, a hospital for the sick and a cradle for the orphaned and abandoned children of India.

Today Pingalwara has seven branches in India, Chandigarh, Sangrur, Jalandhar, Goindwal, Mananwala and Pandori Waraich, in addition to its branches in USA and Canada. They cater for over 1700 patients worldwide.

Pingalwara Charitable Society UK aim is to support charities like All India Pingalwara in Amritsar through the projects proposed where they may need support. So far, they have been able to raise funds to support the medical needs of the charity as well the prosthetic limbs department.

The long-term goal is to relieve poverty for people who are homeless, abandoned and physically impaired or otherwise in need by providing education, training, medical assistance, shelter, food, clothes and all the necessary support designed to enable individuals to generate a sustainable income and be self-sufficient. To relieve financial hardship, sickness and poor health, particularly amongst elderly people through their ongoing projects where funds are raised.

The 4 x 4 x 48 challenge

The aim is to run 4 miles, every 4 hours for a total of 48 hours. This includes our resting, eating and sleeping time within the allocated 4 hour timeframe.

For example, if the first run is at 12pm midday and it takes 45 mins to run the full 4 miles, the participants will have 3 hours and 15 minutes before they need to start the next run. This will have to be started on the minute! Within this time they need to sleep/rest, eat and recover before going again with no excuses.

A total of 48 miles will have been ran within the 48 hours and well over 10,000 calories will have been burned and all on minimal sleep as well! As you can imagine this is a tough challenge and the team are putting in the miles preparing for the actual run on the 16th -18th of September.

The team of three will include:

  • Juggy S
  • Kully S
  • Juggy D

We’ll keep you guys updated on the training and progress made via this page and on social media. Please donate generously, thank you.

Regards,

Lions MMA Bradford
