Story
Hello, My name is Liam. I'm a 6th year student at Dunfermline High School studying Advanced Highers in Chemistry and Physics along with a Higher in Psychology. I have a very keen interest in chemistry which I have applied to study at university in 2011, and some day hope to teach.
For a long time I have wanted to be able to volunteer overseas, and last year this ambition finally materialised when I was introduced to Project Trust. I was lucky enough to be chosen by them to spend a year teaching maths and science to high school students in rural areas of Guyana. As a country with a severe shortage of trained teachers, Guyana has a troubled educational system. It has become necessary to recruit foreign volunteers like myself to help give children growing up in Guyana the life opportunities that we take for granted.
The trouble with my plan, is that I need to raise £4,850 on behalf of Project Trust in order to cover the expenses of my work, and keep the charity alive. I am in the process of organising several fundraising events, and will continue to do so throughout the year to bring me closer to my total. But without the help of others my goal seems very far away, so if you feel you can help me out, please dig deep and donate to Project Trust from this page, it would be greatly appreciated
I hope that in my year out I can make my own small, personal dent in the Guyanese educational problem, by giving just a few children a leg to stand on in their adult life, perhaps I will also benefit the community I integrate with in more ways than one. As well as this however I hope that I too can learn from the experience; learning new skills, becoming more self sufficient, and of course gathering those memories that I'll look after for the rest of my life.
Thank you for visiting my Just Giving page.
