One of the oldest charities in Leicester, established in 1898 the Leicester Children's Holidays charity has been chosen as the charity of the year 2021/22 for Leicestershire Law Society by President Matthew Olner of Nelsons Solicitors.

As we slower come out of the pandemic and what has been some extremely turbulent times, children across Leicester have also felt the impact drastically, with a Ofsted report stating:

'.....among children who were greatly impacted by school closures and other restrictions, basic skills and learning have regressed. For example, some young children whose parents were unable to work more flexibly, and who experienced less time with parents and other children, have lapsed back into nappies, while others have forgotten how to eat with a knife and fork, or lost their early progress in numbers and words.

Among older children, inspectors heard that many now lack stamina in reading and writing; some have lost physical fitness; and others are showing signs of mental distress, manifesting in an increase in eating disorders and self-harm......'

Just as much as we as adults feel the hardship, sometimes children just need a break, a form of escape from the reality of daily life, and there’s nothing quite like a holiday for getting away from it all and creating happy memories.
