Story
Archie wore many hats in his life. He was a devoted husband to Janette and family meant the world to Archie. As a father and grandad, he leaves behind son Steven, daughter in law Bernadette and their children Ben and Lucy and daughter Amanda, son in law Lee and their daughter Isla.
Born in his granny’s front room in Craigmillar on Saturday 2nd October 1943, the Children’s Nursery rhyme says that Saturday’s child works hard for a living which seems to be spot on for Archie, who worked hard all his life.
Most people would have been aware that Archie had had multiple lung infections as a child following bouts of measles and whooping cough. This resulted in him having lung surgery at the age of 13 with part of one of his lungs being removed. The surgery in those days was a lot more invasive and he was left with an enormous scar around his chest.
He was told then he wouldn’t see past 40 but he proved them wrong.
His illness never held him back from doing anything he wanted including being a Boys Brigade Officer for many years.
Towards the end, Archie was admitted to Forth Valley Royal Hospital on Ward 31 where he slipped away peacefully, surrounded by family love.
This just giving page is for Ward B31 for the excellent care received . So the family would be grateful for any donations offered instead of floral tributes .
Many thanks
