Story
Life as a lawyer has its highs and lows. Thankfully, I'm on my way up. The climb won't be arduous (it's only 150ft and I will be transported by a sturdy Otis lift) but it's the way down I fear. I will soon be situated on the cusp of a vertical drop through the central atrium of my office building, the London Underwriting Centre. I ought to explain… life isn't quite that bad… I'm undertaking an indoor abseiling event to raise money for The Prince's Trust.
Many of you might have escaped my constant wittering about my new project, the Prince's Trust Million Makers Scheme. If you have, please spare a moment for me to enlighten you. I have the pleasure of representing my firm in the nationwide Million Makers challenge which aims to raise £1million for the souls at The Prince's Trust. My team in London have been tasked with raising £25,000 by October and boy do I need your help!
We've got a number of initiatives up our immaculately-pressed sleeves, the first one of which is an abseiling event at my office, the London Underwriting Centre. The event is an indoor, 150ft abseil through the central atrium of the LUC and to add to the excitement, it's a free-hanging abseil so there are no walls to bounce off .... think Mission Impossible style descent from the roof.
Why am I doing this? Well, aside from the fact there are not one but two challenges here (to do the abseil and to raise 25,000 notes), I am a big supporter of the work that The Prince's Trust carry out. It's not because I get to take a day off work to paint a school or build planters on community farms, it's because I believe so fervently in the work The Prince's Trust carry out (see the box on the right). For those who don't know, the objective of the charity is to improve the lives of young people, particularly those who've had a difficult start to life. In recognition of this, I will be scaring the living daylights out of myself by sliding off a cleaning gantry suspended 150ft in the air with only a rope to save me.
Please show your compassion for my terror and donate as much as you can!
