Story
Mission Rabies is a UK-based charity and international NGO working to eliminate rabies by 2030. Despite being 100% vaccine preventable, rabies causes at least 70,000 human deaths annually, most of which are children. Following World Health Organisation guidelines, Mission Rabies run mass canine vaccination drives and educate local communities on rabies prevention in India, Malawi, Sri Lanka and Tanzania. The results speak for themselves with the number of human rabies deaths in those countries falling every year.
This summer I am joining Mission Rabies for a two week programme in Cambodia where we aim to vaccinate approximately 100,000 dogs in just two weeks, educating people as we go. Mission Rabies asks every volunteer to raise £350 before the mission in order to raise funds for the vaccines and raise awareness.
See the Mission Rabies website for more information about their projects. Each project has roles for vets, vet nurses and anybody else confident around dogs and keen to make a difference.
