Story
I started running a Girlguiding Rainbows unit in September 2018 in a nearby village. Being involved in community work and volunteering has been a big part of my life in the last 15 years - from coaching cricket throughout my studies to volunteering with Cricket Without Boundaries on a number of international trips over the years. I love being able to share experiences and learn from others and being part of the Guiding community has been a great experience! When my district commissioner suggested I apply for GOLD - the Guiding Overseas Leadership Development programme, I jumped at the chance. It's a programme for 'leaders' under 30 in Guiding, who want to be part of the international Guiding Community.
I'm so excited to have been offered a place on this prestigious programme and to be heading to Albania and Georgia with 5 other UK guiders for 3 weeks in summer 2020 to work on new programme and build on work that has been done on previous GOLD programmes. GOLD programmes operate in countries for 3-5 years and are a great long term investment into areas that the host countries choose to develop with GOLD.
Each GOLD participant is asked to raise £2200 to take part in GOLD, which covers project costs including developing materials which will be left in Albania and Georgia for the Guiding communities there to continue using.
