Story
4 years ago following an accident my dad was left with debilitating pain 😔 We had never heard of CRPS when he was diagnosed and by the seems of it, not many people have! This is why I want to raise awareness and try to help this charity and anyone who knows me will know chocolate is the love of my life 😂 (sorry Jon!)
My dad lives with constant pain 😢 He hasn't used one of his arms for 4 years. You can't even touch it with a feather without him being in unbearable pain. His clothes have to have the arm cut out, he can't do anything with the arm, even washing it is out of the question! He has had various other conditions as a knock on effect, such as personal space syndrome, post traumatic stress disorder and a skin condition that has caused huge blisters on his arm, but also his face and leg. This list is endless. And the worst thing is... There is not a known cure.
He is not giving up and living his life the best he can, but as you can imagine this has changed his life completely. It is one of the most unfair things to happen to anyone.
CRPS occurs when both the nervous system and immune system malfunction as they respond to any tissue damage from trauma. The nerves will misfire, sending constant pain signals to the brain. The main sysmtoms are extreme constant burning or freezing pain that lasts a long time after the incident occurred (and is out of proportion to the original injury), swelling, extreme colour and temperature changes along with other different symptoms. My dad has random sweating and bleeding from the arm.
The level of pain is measured on the McGill pain scale and CRPS is considered the most severe chronic pain condition on that scale.
