Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Cameron was diagnosed with Diamond Blackfan Anemia in September 2021, after falling ill around 6 weeks of age, it was first diagnosed as a virus, upon further inspection his head was measuring too big for his body, and was extremely pale and sleepy, Cameron was rushed to hospital and had a MRI on his brain, and CT on his chest and lungs, and blood tests without diagnoses, as a parent the experience of just the MRI and CT scan was heartbreaking seeing my tiny 6.5lb baby being investigated by these Huge machines was something i could never prepare myself for.
After blood tests, Drs came in and informed us that Cameron was at risk of heart failure, Cameron's HB red blood cell count, was 48, a healthy baby's HB should be around 110 Hb, This when Cameron had his first of many blood transfusions.
When Cameron was 6 months old he was diagnosed with Diamond blackfan anaemia, It is a extremely rare and can be life threatening if not medically managed, there is approximately 5000 cases worldwide just to put it into scale of how rare this is, its a extremely complex disorder, its inherited, it can't be cured and it will affect Cameron for the rest of his life, DBA is a rare genetics disease which effects Cameron's ability to create his own haemoglobin, which is a protein which connects to a blood cell and and allows the blood cells to be oxygenated. This means when his blood levels are low he struggles to breath and his heart pumps much faster which could ultimately be fatal as this puts Cameron at huge risk of heart failure, Cameron has to have regular blood transfusions to keep him alive, and could need a bone marrow transplant or a stem cell transplant in the future as too many blood transfusions can cause huge complications.
Cameron, has and will spend most of his life in hospital and in other medical surroundings, I am raising money for DBA UK who has supported me and my family through this painful heart-breaking process, and to go towards research to find a cure, and to help other families too.
Cameron and All of us, would be so grateful if you could make a small donation to DBA uk <3
