On Saturday I’m taking part in the Old Sergeant walk, which is 20 miles from Hampton Court to Putney along the Thames.

I’m doing this to raise money for LAFF – The Latin American Foundation for the Future (http://www.laffcharity.org.uk/) , a charity incredibly close to my heart as it was set up by one of my best friends, Hannah, during our university year abroad and then after we’d graduated. 

The reason this charity means so much to me is that sadly Hannah passed away almost 5 years ago, aged 26, from a brain tumour. She fought hard and never lost her sense of humour or personality, and even swam the channel to raise money for LAFF while she was undergoing chemotherapy… seriously, she was inspirational, incredible and just one of the best friends I could have ever wished for. She did so much to try to change people's lives for the better... seriously that girl... just wow. 

The charity provides education, training and sustainability practices for young people in Peru who have been marginalised by society – abandoned by their families, on the edges of society. The charity helps them get back on their feet and be independent, and build their lives back.

The charity continues with some superb full-time staff and volunteers, and I want to help them even more, carry on Hannah's legacy and enable them to keep up the good work.

I used to wander along the towpath in Durham with Han, so this will be a fitting tribute to her.
