Story

Hi everybody! As many of you know I have been training for the Great North Run for the last few months and am running in aid of Breast Cancer Care. When I started training, I could only run for two minutes before having to stop and now I can run for over 2 hours! My training buddies, Claire Jones and Carolyn Lowes have supported me and motivated me during my training and I couldn't have reached my current milestone of 11.5 miles without them! I am so grateful to you both!

In December 2007, I was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer, having thought that I had beaten the disease twice previously. At that time I couldn't walk to the end of the street without being breathless. Chemotherapy is a debilitating and horrible but necessary evil in the fight against breast cancer and like so many thousands of women before me I underwent the treatment whilst making all sorts of plans and goals for the future. One of those plans was to take part in the Great North Run!

Over 45,000 women are diagnosed each year with breast cancer and 12,000 women die from the disease every year. Sadly, I have lost several friends to breast cancer, all courageous, brave women who between them have left children, partners, family and friends knowing only too well the impact that this dreadful disease can have.

Please, please, please sponsor me to run the Great North Run for Breast Cancer Care and help me to run in memory of these beautiful women. On September 19th, I will run with their names on my back knowing that you are with me every step of the way! Breast Cancer Care supports vital research into new drugs to treat breast cancer and provides valuable support for the many thousands of women affected by this dreadful disease.
