We support people in Scotland to rebuild their lives

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. On the 11th of September 2010 myself and a few friends plan to climb Ben Nevis the highest mountain in the UK to raise money for various charities. I have chosed to support two charities, Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland and a dog rescue charity I volunteer with.

There are thousands of husbands, wives, children and friends who care for people who have had a stroke, whose lives are directly affected.

On the 8th August 2010 my gran was taken into hospital suffering from a stroke after her many years of battling renal failure, chest problems and heart problems. In hospital, she suffered a few further minor strokes and heart attacks. She is such a fighter and is still in recovery at the moment. We all love you gran and hope you get well soon. Due to the stroke, she lost her ability to speak. This was a rememberence for many of my family when my uncle years ago also suffered from a stroke, resulting in various of the common affects a stroke can have on the body. Through a lot of determination, strength and support from his loving family he has now overcome nearly all of these problems.

Hopefully, the money raised can help another family affected by stroke who can do as well as my gran and uncle have at the moment. We are all so proud of you both.

Stroke is the greatest single cause of severe disability in Scotland and the 3rd most common cause of death.

Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland (CHSS) needs to raise £7 million every year in order to continue and grow our vital community services and research projects. £500 could allow one person 6 months worth of Stroke support group sessions, which can have the greatest impact on their physical and mental health.

Stroke can happen to anyone. A stroke can happen with no obvious cause, to people of any age

Update

Myself and Totts (my 2 yr old JRT x) climbed Ben Lomond in preperation for Ben Nevis on the 05/09/10. Much much much more difficult than I imagined and Ben Nevis is looking rather terrifying now! We reached the end of the fall summit in 3 hours 20 mins and took 1 hour 20 minutes to come back down. Anyone fancy doing Ben Nevis on my behalf? :D

Any donations would be greatly appreciated.

Lots of love

Laura
